Packaging is horrible, but unit seems to be solid as hell

First off, know that this comes packed like absolute crap. The entire bottom of the box was gone, two of the corners were bent, and the rest of the bottom was scraped down to the metal. Also, I got the 48x48 10k lb version, which seems to not be available anymore. I expected this to come freight, but it came UPS - a day early as well. I know my UPS driver, and he said that there's no way it was going to get here in any better condition than it did, BECAUSE THIS THING IS HEAVY! My guess is that it's at 150-200lbs, but I'm getting old and things seem to weigh more. I took a chance on it and accepted it, opened it up in front of my store, VERY roughly leveled it - basically all four feet were on the ground and it didn't rock around. I honestly didn't expect it to work at all, but I was wrong. The directions are worthless. The stickers on it tell you where the parts are hidden. It's pretty simple other than that; if you can't figure it out I'm not sure what you're doing with a pallet scale. The only potential issue I see, as far as documentation goes, is that there's nothing about the serial output - you're gonna be on your own there. I'd assume it's a standard 9-pin wiring configuration, but I haven't tried it (and I also threw out my serial printers quite a while ago), so.? I hooked it up and, not only did it work, but it was pretty damn accurate. I started standing in the middle, then moved to each corner, and the the weight always returned to the same initial reading from the middle. I had a few other people do the same, and they thought it was pretty spot on as well. It's really not well described, but it does have a battery in the head unit and can run without AC - which is great for me, I overlooked that feature. I haven't had a chance to test it with an actual pallet load, but if it is able to still work after shipping and get within a pound or two of what people thought they should weigh, I'm going to go with this is a well-built unit. If that doesn't pan out, I'll adjust my review. I'd throw some pics in here if I though to take them, but I didn't. I bought another pallet scale about 15 years ago, and that was a pile of garbage. I'm truly surprised about the build quality of this scale - it has three box beam structural members under the top plate (I'm thinking 3x3's but maybe larger), and they are thick. The head unit is solid. The buttons are straight forward and appear to do what they're supposed to. The last pallet scale was more like someone took a 400lb 12x12 scale and just stretched it to fit a pallet - the thickness of the steel was nowhere close to this unit. I don't remember for sure, but I'm pretty sure that after the crappy head unit quit after a month or two (I had a very good board tech try to fix it, but it only worked for another week or so), I ran it over with my forklift and tossed it in the scrap pile. I wouldn't be afraid of buying this unit based on my initial assessment of it.
